Jennifer John – Violin • Viola • Chamber Music Coaching
Music is both a solitary and communal experience. In my teaching, I balance the development of solo repertoire with the collaborative skills essential for chamber music and orchestral playing. Through solo work, students discover and refine their personal artistic voice. In ensemble settings, they build communication, ensemble awareness, and musical empathy—skills that are vital to becoming a complete musician.
The mental and physical well-being of each student is a top priority. I integrate mindfulness techniques to help students manage performance anxiety, enhance concentration, and foster a healthy relationship with their instrument. Physical wellness is addressed through careful attention to posture, relaxation, and body awareness, promoting injury prevention and long-term ease in playing.
Every student learns differently. Whether visual, auditory, or kinesthetic, I tailor my teaching approach to match each student's learning style. This individualized method allows students to progress confidently and meaningfully at their own pace.
Students are encouraged to explore music beyond the studio. I advocate for attending live performances, participating in local youth orchestra programs, and learning about a variety of instruments, vocal styles, and musical genres. These experiences deepen musical understanding and broaden creative perspective.
Understanding music goes beyond technique. My teaching incorporates score study, theory, and historical context to help students grasp the full depth of the pieces they perform. This holistic approach enriches their interpretation and strengthens their overall musicianship.
